Everything Has a Catch

Yep, the title says it all.. And before curious minds start to wonder, I'm talking about the beauty that is in throwing up, exhaustion, constant hunger, and sore/tender body parts. That's right, I'm talking about (Dun Dun Duuuuuun) Pregnancy. I am currently seven weeks along, and while I am extremely happy and excited, and not exactly new to the whole pregnancy thing, there are still some things that sneak up on you and make you go "Well Crap". Take last night for instance. Randy (my husband) and I had some friends over. Some we know really well and some we don't, all for a fun night of card games and drinking. (See where I'm going with this yet?) Now, I've already accepted that there will be no real "drinking" for Amanda. But I'm still getting used to being the only sober person in the room. We aren't exactly party people, but I don't mind kicking back and having some drinks with friends.
So I settled for my one allotted glass of wine while everyone else nursed beer or something stiffer. It wasn't bad until the drinking games started. So while I was taking the tiniest sips, and the guests we didn't know so well made friendly jokes about it, I got to explain the little Bugga-Bug in my tummy.

Now, I must admit that I was waiting for an "OMG YOU'RE DRINKING WINE???" reaction, after all, while my doctor told me a glass every now and then is still good to flush toxins, there are still people that freak about the slightest sip going past a pregnant woman's lips. So I was pleasantly surprised when they went "Oh wow! Congratulations! Don't worry, you just take your time with your drink. :]"

Granted, it still made me a little sad that I couldn't cut loose like everyone else, but it ended up a pleasant evening. (And it was rather funny watching our guests get drunk.)

But onto another catch, I get to experience one of the fun *cough*not*cough* parts of pregnancy this week. I'm already jumping the first hurdle with morning sickness, but now I get to go and get the dreaded blood tests. x.x To clarify, I completely HATE needles. And so I'm not looking forward to the trip to the lab for them to take roughly 5 vials of blood. And as I am 7 wees along, I also get to schedule my first real doctors appointment for some time in the next few weeks. The appointment I am kind of excited about and dreading at the same time. I'm excited because I should get the first ultrasound to make sure that everything is starting out good to go, but dreading it because I get a super awesome Pap Smear. Yeah, they aren't that bad, but I still don't particularly enjoy what amounts to plastic tongs going down there, and a wanna-be mascara brush collecting samples.

Oh the joys of pregnancy.....
